10 Percent of Americans Have Had a Serious Drug Problem

NEWSWEEK (11/19) – One in 10 American adults has had a serious drug problem at some point in life, according to a study published this week in the journal JAMA Psychiatry. That equates to more than 23 million Americans. And most of them aren’t getting professional help: The paper also found that only 25 percent of these people had ever received treatment. Additionally, 4 percent of Americans are currently struggling with a drug use disorder, the new preferred term, and only 1 in 7 of those currently suffering is receiving treatment. Read more
